Global variance reduction method for Monte Carlo simulation of thermal radiation transport

The implicit Monte Carlo (IMC) method is an important numerical approximation of simulating the thermal radiative transfer problems under high temperature condition. However, one problem plaguing IMC that calculation error distributions radiation specific intensities are highly asymmetric in space and time. By theoretical analysis simulations, we find affected by records track tallying mesh. Accordingly, a global variance reduction for simulation developed corresponding formulas derived. This includes three key techniques: 1) automated dynamic distribution source particles; 2) weight-window technique none-bias weight revise algorithm suited to particle method; 3) analytical estimation intensity. In view above, three-dimensional code, named IMC3D, simulate phenomena. typical transport problem, known as Marshak wave, simulated. results indicate makes statistical errors much more symmetric time maximum controllable, thereby increasing speed approximately 10 times. new code used transportation hohlraum ICF successfully.
